The Quirk is an independent community social enterprise; stockist of art, homewares, cards & gifts with the majority from local professional artists, artisans and crafts people.
We provide a central unique selling opportunity that not only provides an easy way for customers to
‘shop local’ with confidence and receive high end products, but also a way to provide continued support for local art for wellbeing projects in the Leigh area. All profit from The Quirk goes to Umbrella Arts which is based next door at Spinners Mill.
The Quirk was created by Umbrella Arts Director Wendy Boyers with the support and guidence from Umbrella Arts volunteers, local artists and crafts people. Since launching in November 2019 we have had amazing response. We’re loved slowly growing from strength to strength.
Local professionals get sometimes flooded market on etsy, ebay and Facebook marketplace alongside hobbiest, with fees going to support huge ‘for profit’ corporations. Customers wanting to support their local artisans and artists often stumble across items shared to them on social media rather than get selected. The Quirk is created to support professional creative businesses only, to show recognition of the talent and grow the creative economy that we have on our doorstep.
At The Quirk not only are customers getting an affordable professional service that is easy to click and collect or receive quick delivery times, our customers love that the profit from the money they spend is going directly back into our local small and micro businesses and to provide Arts for wellbeing workshops in Leigh. When you shop with The Quirk you know that all the suppliers are living within a 10-15 miles radius of our base in Leigh and how have been selected to showcase professional approach to their craft.
